A.K.A THE GRAND RUSSIAN SADNESS christina is a funny gal. hardly a gal, i think she's around thirty or so. she's so funny. her romanian accent is 50% of what's great about her. whatever she says becomes automatically either a wise saying, a poem, or a joke. the other day we were eating lunch and she says out of nowhere, "what do you call the husband of a female sheep?" i laughed and said ram. i didn't realize they got married. then she says, "you are a ram, yes?" i started laughing and understood she was referring to the zociac symbol. i said, "yea, why?" she said "then you are likely to marry a capricorn, because they are both relatives of a cow." then she poured herself some coffee and left me laughing uncontrollably in the kitchen. we had our friday lunch meeting today. Hsin made fun of people going to iraq, and how he could safely go because he's got "the face (of a chinese man)." He's a funny guy, but he's obnoxious sometimes. yesterday he taught me how to fold paper "efficiently". sorin is the other half of the romanian couple. he's extremely quiet, except for a few key statements every maybe...three days or so. he embodies the notion that one should listen to people who never talk, much more than to people who talk incessantly. today was one of the lucky days. he was eating something at his desk, and omar standing next to him said, "what is that, is that like russian or something?" sorin laughed and said, "no! !russians, psh! they are ALVAYS sad,..it's like a thing they have..do i look sad?" i need to follow those two around and record their nonsensical yet somehow logical conversations. |
