A MOMENT AND ITS ETERNITY

Henri Cartier-Bresson died this last monday. he was the epitome of a candid photographer. he was 95. he's my hero in photography. they say he "himself brought to the medium the eye of a painter and the temperament of a philosopher." if you look at his shots he has such an amazing style. he combines the best composition of the frame possible with such urgency and contrast, it just blows my mind.

i wish i could have met him. shaken the hand of the man who, unlike myself, did NOT miss all those shots. i imagine he must have died peacefully, knowing that he not only captured those once in a lifetime glances, but that he spoke to so many of us.

and he wasn't a classic photographer. 'course. he was an oddball. radical (yes, a free radical). a naturalist. a purist.

i love this guy.
